2021-2022 Premier League Week 38: Match Highlights

Manchester City has won their sixth Premier League title after coming back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Aston Villa 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium.

Crystal Palace 1-0 Manchester United

United finished sixth, avoiding participation in the Europa Conference League next season, thanks to West Ham's 3-1 defeat against Brighton.

United delivered a dismal performance in interim manager Ralf Rangnick's final game in command, with Wilfried Zaha scoring the game's winner after 37 minutes.

It marks an end to a dismal season for United, who finished with zero goal difference and the lowest points total in Premier League history.

Meanwhile, Palace finished 12th in Patrick Vieira's debut season in charge with their first home win over United since 1991.

Arsenal 5-1 Everton

Arsenal needed Norwich to beat Spurs to have a chance of securing the fourth Champions League spot, but their thrashing guaranteed that it never looked likely on the final day.

Despite this, Arsenal enjoyed themselves, taking a dominating lead at the Emirates Stadium thanks to goals from Gabriel Martinelli (27) and Eddie Nketiah from close range (31).

Everton substitute Donny van de Beek equalized with a tap-in on the stroke of half-time, but Arsenal took control in the second half with goals from Cedric Soares (56), Gabriel Magalhaes (59), and the outstanding Martin Odegaard (82).

Arsenal's four-goal victory was their greatest of the Premier League season, putting them in second place with 69 points, two behind Tottenham, while Everton finished 16th with 39 points after securing Premier League survival with a game to go.

Chelsea 2-1 Watford

On Sunday afternoon, Chelsea defeated Watford 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in their final Premier League match of the season.

After a Kenedy assist, Kai Havertz put the Blues ahead in the 11th minute. After five years at the club, German defender Antonio Rudiger made his final appearance in the 65th minute.

After a cross from Adam Masina beat Edouard Mendy, Dan Gosling equalized with a header in the 87th minute.

After a fantastic cross from Reece James, substitute Ross Barkley headed home the winner in stoppage time, beating Daniel Bachmann.

Manchester City 3-2 Aston Villa

Late in the game, substitute Ilkay Gundogan scored two goals either side of Rodri's strike to turn the game - and the title battle - on its head. With Liverpool's late win over Wolves, just a win would have sufficed for City.

It was an astonishing manner to do it, almost as miraculous as Sergio Aguero's title-winning goal in stoppage time a decade ago. When Philippe Coutinho added to Matty Cash's opener midway through the second half, City appeared to be beaten.

Steven Gerrard, the manager of Aston Villa, was about to add to his Liverpool legend. Instead, Pep Guardiola and his team were ecstatically celebrating the last whistle at the Etihad, amid a boisterous scene. There would be twists and turns. Certainly not this.

Norwich City 0-5 Tottenham

Tottenham began the last day of the season fourth in the table, knowing that a draw would be enough to qualify for European football's top club championship.

However, Antonio Conte's team cruised to victory at Carrow Road, with Heung-Min Son scoring twice in the second half to share the Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, who both scored 23 goals.

Tottenham will return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2019/20 season thanks to Dejan Kulusevski's two goals either side of Harry Kane's header.

Tottenham finished two points ahead of north London rivals Arsenal after beating the Premier League's worst team.

Liverpool 3-1 Wolves

After recovering from Pedro Neto's shock opener with a Sadio Mane score and Villa going 2-0 up in Manchester, the Reds appeared poised to go on and pull off a historic success when they were equal on points with City.

With Philippe Coutinho scoring at the Etihad and Steven Gerrard in charge of Villa, it appeared that Liverpool's old guard was doing everything they could to help the Reds' fans.

Anfield was electrified at the time, but City came back valiantly to win the title race.

Winner of the golden boot Liverpool fans paid respect to a team that has won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup this season, as well as closing a 14-point lead with two games in hand on City with a historic 19-game undefeated run in January.

It was also a fitting send-off for a Liverpool team that now faces Real Madrid in Saturday's Champions League final in Paris, where more glory and silverware awaits, despite the fact that the unprecedented quadruple is now out of reach.

With the win, Liverpool finish the Premier League season with 92 points, enough to win the title in 24 of the previous 29 seasons, while Salah's 23 goals equaled him for top scorer with Tottenham's Heung-Min Son, and Alisson finished tied for golden glove with City's Ederson with 20 shutouts.
